Graduates move into roles such as design engineer, project manager or specialist consultant in aerospace, automotive, biotechnology, computing, energy conversion, the Ministry of Defence and research organisations, and many progress to Chartered Engineer status through the Engineering Council or continue to PhD study. The programme includes an optional year-long industry placement between the second and third years, giving hands-on experience with real projects, and it is taught in the £35 million Engineering Innovation Centre, which houses a 3D-printing lab, rapid-prototyping facilities and a CNC workshop. Students also benefit from links with the Advanced Digital Manufacturing Technology research centre and the Jost Institute of Tribotechnology, which enrich project work and research exposure. The programme is accredited to satisfy the Engineering Council AHEP4 benchmark for professional registration.
