About Master in Mechanical Engineering/Mechatronics (MSc)

The application deadline is 1 Dec · 31 May.

The Master's in Mechanical Engineering/Mechatronics (MSc) at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences has an entirely elective structure — there are no mandatory modules. Students individually choose 60 ECTS from a menu of English-taught and German-taught modules covering areas such as automotive engineering, fluid mechanics, fibre reinforced plastics, image processing, numerical methods, simulation of mechatronic systems, software engineering for embedded systems, structural durability, virtual product development, and product development from need to market, among others. The Master's thesis contributes a further 30 ECTS and completes the programme. The programme can be oriented toward application or toward research. If at least 30 ECTS are earned through research and development modules and the thesis has a research-oriented specialisation, this is noted on the final certificate. The combination of modules a student selects also determines whether the degree certificate states mechanical engineering or mechatronics as the specialisation. A mobility module of 20 or 30 ECTS allows study abroad at any university after completing 30 ECTS in Kaiserslautern; a double degree with University West in Trollhättan, Sweden, is available for students who take the 30 ECTS mobility module there. Each module is co-taught by at least two professors approaching the subject from different disciplinary perspectives. Studies can begin in either the winter or the summer semester. The programme is located at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
