About Master in MEng Mechanical Engineering / Materials

You will spend time in material testing labs, design studios and computer-based modelling workshops, analysing how different materials behave under load, temperature and environmental conditions. Typical weeks combine practical experiments on composites, surface coatings and tribology with project work that links material selection to real-world engineering problems.

The programme is split into three stages. The first two years provide a solid foundation in core mechanical engineering subjects such as mechanics of solids, heat transfer and manufacturing processes. In the final year you move into specialist modules on aircraft structures, biomaterials, orthopaedic biomechanics and advanced surface engineering, culminating in a major design project that integrates material modelling and testing.

It suits students who enjoy both theoretical analysis and hands-on experimentation, and who wish to develop expertise in selecting and characterising materials for high-performance engineering applications.
