About the Program

The MA in North American Studies at Marburg University examines the literatures and cultures of North America, covering both the United States and Canada. The programme takes an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on current academic research to address the interculturality of the region from transnational and comparative perspectives. Students build a broad education in American Studies that encompasses literary texts, cultural formations, and other cultural media. The curriculum progresses across 4 semesters, moving from introductory work in literary and cultural studies in the first semester through theoretical approaches and key concepts in the second, to interdisciplinary studies and practical skills in the third, and concluding with the thesis in the fourth. The programme starts in the winter semester. The MA NAS is based at Marburg University in Marburg, Germany.
