Students who possess a natural curiosity about the Earth’s physical composition and a desire to translate that passion into a technical, field-based career will find a home in this Geology programme. The curriculum is designed for those who learn best through active exploration, moving beyond classroom theory to engage with the planet’s history through mineralogy, palaeontology, and structural geology.

What sets this degree apart is its intense focus on practical, real-world application. Students spend a significant portion of their time in the field, with opportunities to conduct geological surveys in diverse environments ranging from the UK to international sites like Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, and the USA. This hands-on approach is supported by training in industry-standard software, including GIS, and a strong emphasis on professional development.

Developing Industry-Ready Professionals

The programme ensures that graduates are not only geologically literate but also career-ready. By integrating personal development modules—covering CV construction, interview techniques, and professional time management—the course bridges the gap between academic study and the demands of the global energy and mining sectors. Graduates emerge prepared for roles such as logging geologists, equipped with the teamwork and analytical skills required to thrive in challenging, high-stakes environments like North Sea drilling rigs.
