Master in Research in Computer & Systems Engineering (RCSE)

Ilmenau, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Research in Computer and Systems Engineering (RCSE) is a four-semester Master's programme at Technische Universität Ilmenau structured in four sequential phases. The first phase covers foundational courses in algorithms, information systems, mobile communication networks, software and systems engineering, and control engineering, alongside research seminars. The second phase allows students to select from an advanced elective catalogue covering topics such as machine learning and deep learning, distributed systems, complex embedded systems, cellular communication systems, systems security, quantum computing, and advanced database systems. The third phase shifts to individual and team-based research projects where students apply what they have learned to current industrial and research problems, with an optional internship also possible at this stage. The fourth and final phase is the Master's thesis, which connects theoretical knowledge to new research challenges and prepares students for careers in either research or industry. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, laboratory sessions, group studies, and small-group discussions. The programme admits students in both the winter and summer semesters. It is offered at Technische Universität Ilmenau in Ilmenau, Germany.
