Sosyoloji

Sociology examines how societies are organized, how social institutions function, and how individuals and groups interact within broader social structures. Typical coursework covers classical and contemporary sociological theory, research methods, social stratification, urban sociology, family and gender studies, and the sociology of work, alongside statistics and qualitative research techniques such as interviews and ethnography. Students learn to analyze social problems like inequality, migration, and cultural change, and to design research projects that test theoretical claims against empirical evidence. Coursework often includes case studies of Turkish and broader regional social dynamics alongside comparative international material. Graduates pursue careers in social research, public policy, nonprofit and community organizations, human resources, journalism, and public administration, and many continue into graduate study in sociology, social work, or related social science fields. This 4 year bachelor's program is offered by Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in Ankara, Turkey, with instruction in English, giving students the vocabulary to engage with international sociological literature and debates. Ankara's role as a center of government and public policy provides a relevant setting for studying institutions and social structures. Over the four years, students typically move from foundational theory and methods courses toward specialized electives and an independent research project. The program is designed to develop the analytical and research skills needed for careers in social research, policy analysis, or further academic study in the social sciences.
