This 4-year bachelor's program in Sociology is offered at Izmir University of Economics in İzmir, Turkey, with instruction delivered in English. Sociology is the study of human societies, social relationships, institutions, and the patterns that shape collective life. Coursework typically covers classical and contemporary social theory, research methods, social stratification, family and gender studies, urban sociology, and the sociology of work, culture, and deviance. Students learn both qualitative methods, such as interviews and ethnography, and quantitative methods, including survey design and statistical analysis, to study social phenomena. The program develops skills in critical analysis, data interpretation, and academic writing, along with the ability to examine social problems such as inequality, migration, and social change from multiple theoretical perspectives. Graduates find work in research organizations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, human resources departments, market research firms, and social policy roles. Some continue into fields such as social work, journalism, education, or public administration, while others pursue graduate study in sociology or related social sciences. The discipline also serves as preparation for careers requiring strong analytical and communication skills, since sociology graduates are trained to interpret data, write clearly about complex social issues, and understand how institutions and communities function. Coursework often includes group discussion, case-based learning, and small research projects that let students apply theory to real social settings. The program suits students who want to understand social behavior, institutions, and the forces that shape communities and societies.
