Sosyoloji

This bachelor's program in Sociology is offered at Izmir Democracy University in İzmir, Turkey, with instruction delivered in English over 4 years. Sociology examines how societies form, function, and change, studying institutions such as family, education, religion, and the economy alongside the patterns of inequality, culture, and social interaction that shape everyday life. Coursework typically covers classical and contemporary social theory, research methods, statistics, and specialized topics such as urban sociology, gender studies, deviance, and social stratification. Students learn to design surveys, conduct interviews and fieldwork, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data to draw evidence-based conclusions about social phenomena. The discipline also engages with globalization, migration, and the effects of technology on communities, giving graduates a broad lens for interpreting social change. Because the program is taught in English, students develop the academic vocabulary needed to read international scholarship and communicate their findings clearly to a global audience while studying within a Turkish university setting. Over four years, students move from foundational courses in theory and methodology toward more advanced seminars and often a capstone research project that lets them explore a topic of personal interest in depth. Graduates of sociology programs pursue careers in research institutes, government agencies, non-profit organizations, human resources, market research, journalism, and social policy analysis, and the analytical and communication skills built during the degree also serve as preparation for graduate study in sociology or related social science fields. Studying in İzmir places students in one of Turkey's major coastal cities, offering exposure to a diverse urban environment that itself provides many real-world examples for sociological study.
