How do we untangle the complex biological threads linking molecular mechanisms to the survival of entire ecosystems? The MSci in Zoology at Queen's University Belfast invites students to explore this question through a rigorous, research-intensive curriculum that spans the breadth of animal biology. From the microscopic study of infectious diseases and molecular forensics to the practical realities of wildlife conservation and animal behaviour, the programme provides a comprehensive toolkit for addressing modern global challenges.

A Research-Led Education

This four-year integrated master's degree is designed for those who wish to move beyond theoretical understanding into active scientific discovery. Students gain significant experience in both field and laboratory techniques, utilizing modern innovations like remote sensing to track animal movement and molecular diagnostics to monitor biodiversity. The programme is distinctly practical, offering students the unique opportunity to undertake a 16-week work placement and a dedicated final year focused entirely on an independent research project. Whether working at the Queen’s University Marine Laboratory in Portaferry or collaborating with international partners in Africa, Thailand, or North America, students graduate with the advanced technical skills and professional maturity required for careers in conservation, veterinary research, or academia.
