Architecture combines artistic design thinking with technical and scientific knowledge to address how buildings and spaces are conceived, planned, and constructed. Students typically progress through a sequence of design studios that introduce increasingly complex problems, supported by courses in structural systems, construction technology, architectural history, and representation techniques such as drafting and digital modeling. Later coursework often introduces topics including sustainable design, urban design, and building regulations, broadening students' understanding of how individual buildings relate to their surrounding environment. Graduates typically pursue careers in architectural practice, urban design, interior architecture, or construction-related fields, and the degree also provides a basis for further professional qualification or graduate study. Istanbul Technical University offers this four-year bachelor's program in Istanbul, Turkey, with instruction conducted in English so that students can work with the internationally shared vocabulary and literature of architectural design. The program follows a studio-centered model, in which design work is developed iteratively and reviewed by faculty, complemented by technical and theoretical coursework covering construction, structures, and architectural history. Istanbul's dense architectural heritage and active contemporary construction sector give students direct access to built examples spanning many periods, which supports both historical study and site-based design exercises. By the end of the program, students are expected to have developed a design portfolio and the technical grounding needed to enter architectural practice or continue toward professional licensure and advanced study.
