Information Systems in Medicine is a bachelor's degree program taught in English at the Silesian University of Technology in Poland, running for 7 semesters with yearly tuition of 3000.0 EUR. Described as a modern specialization within the Biomedical Engineering field at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, the program is designed to meet the need for engineers trained to work with information technologies that are becoming part of every branch of industry and life, including, especially, the healthcare system. Alongside developing, testing, and maintaining informatics systems, data processing, embedded systems design, and hospital information systems, students also work across other areas of biomedical engineering and get acquainted with elements of management within healthcare units and IT projects. The program is built around wide cooperation with informatics and biomedical engineering companies as well as international exchange. Course modules include mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics, and other foundational subjects; a computer science module covering algorithms and data structures, programming languages at different levels, and numerical methods; databases and Hospital Information Systems; signal and image acquisition and processing; big data analysis; artificial intelligence and reasoning systems; embedded systems, bioelectronics, and medical equipment; biomechatronics and modern rehabilitation systems; the fundamentals of modern biomaterials and artificial organs; and modules on management in healthcare units and IT projects. As a discipline, biomedical engineering combines electronics, computer science, and medical knowledge to design and maintain the technology used in modern healthcare, and this program leans specifically toward the information-systems side of that field. Graduates are positioned for roles in hospital IT departments, medical software development, healthcare data management, and biomedical equipment companies, as well as further study at the master's level.
