Marmara University

Bachelor in Computer Engineering

İstanbul, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Computer Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that combines electrical engineering and computer science to design, build, and maintain both the hardware and software that make up computing systems. Students typically begin with mathematics, physics, and introductory programming, then move into core subjects such as digital logic design, computer architecture, data structures and algorithms, and operating systems. Coursework often covers microprocessor design, embedded systems, computer networks, and software engineering practices, giving students the ability to work across the full stack of computing technology, from circuit-level hardware to complex software applications. Laboratory work is central to the discipline, with students building and testing circuits, writing and debugging code, and working on hardware-software integration projects that mirror real engineering practice. As the field has grown, many programs also introduce topics such as database systems, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, reflecting the breadth of industries that rely on computer engineers. Group projects and capstone work are common toward the end of the program, requiring students to design and implement a complete system that draws on multiple areas of their training. Problem-solving, logical reasoning, and attention to detail are emphasized throughout, since engineers must ensure systems perform reliably under real-world constraints. Coursework in software engineering practices, including version control and collaborative development, prepares students for the team-based environment typical of the technology industry. Graduates typically pursue careers as software developers, hardware engineers, systems architects, network engineers, or embedded systems specialists, and many continue into graduate research in areas such as artificial intelligence or computer architecture. This program is taught in English over 4 years at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey.
