Bachelor in Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering combines the study of computer hardware and software to prepare students to design, build, and maintain computing systems from the circuit level up to full applications. The curriculum covers programming, data structures and algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, and digital logic design, along with networking, databases, and software engineering practices. Students also study topics such as embedded systems, microprocessors, and increasingly, areas like machine learning and cybersecurity, reflecting how the field has broadened beyond traditional hardware-software boundaries. Laboratory work is central to the degree, giving students hands-on experience building circuits, writing and debugging code, and working with development boards and real hardware components. Group projects are common, mirroring how software and hardware systems are built collaboratively in industry, and students learn to document, test, and maintain the systems they design. The mathematical foundation includes discrete mathematics, linear algebra, and probability, which underpin algorithm design and systems analysis throughout the program. Graduates find work as software developers, systems engineers, network engineers, embedded systems designers, and IT specialists across sectors including telecommunications, finance, manufacturing, and technology firms. The degree also provides a strong base for further graduate study in computer science or specialized engineering fields. This bachelor's program is taught in English over 4 years at Karabük University in Karabük, Turkey. English-medium instruction reflects the international nature of the computing field, where documentation, programming languages, and much of the technical literature are in English.
