İngilizce Mütercim ve Tercümanlık

English Translation and Interpreting covers the theory and practice of converting written and spoken language between English and other languages, with an emphasis on accuracy, cultural context, and specialized terminology. Students study translation theory, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting techniques, and applied translation across domains such as legal, technical, literary, and business texts, alongside coursework that strengthens advanced proficiency in both source and target languages. Practical translation and interpreting exercises form a core part of the coursework, building the speed and accuracy required for professional work. This bachelor's program is offered at Istanbul Aydın University in İstanbul, Turkey, and is taught in English over 4 years. The curriculum combines language proficiency coursework with specialized translation and interpreting practice, often including simulated conference or business settings where students practice interpreting under realistic conditions. Students also study linguistics and comparative grammar to build a stronger theoretical foundation for the practical translation work that makes up much of the program. Graduates pursue careers as translators and interpreters for businesses, government agencies, international organizations, publishing houses, and media companies, or work as freelance language professionals across a range of industries. Some continue into graduate study in translation studies, linguistics, or applied languages. İstanbul's role as a major international business and tourism center, with substantial cross-border commercial activity, gives students in this program a large local market for translation and interpreting services during and after their studies.
