Students typically study contrastive grammar and stylistics, developing an understanding of how meaning, tone, and structure shift when moving between English and their other working languages. Practical interpreting exercises are a central part of the training, giving students hands-on experience translating in real time under conditions similar to professional settings such as conferences, business meetings, and legal or diplomatic proceedings. Terminology management coursework teaches students to research and apply specialized vocabulary with precision, which becomes especially important when handling technical or legal material where small errors can have significant consequences.
