Master in MA Performance Lighting Design

MA Performance Lighting Design is a postgraduate course validated by King's College London, running for one year and one term, full-time, in London plus a professional placement. It prepares students for careers as lighting designers for live performance, structured around three strands: creative practice, lighting design skill, and technical specialism.

Students refine communication and collaborative theatre-making skills, build a repertoire of design techniques, and work with practitioners from other disciplines to develop the contribution lighting design makes to a production. The technical strand covers the theory and use of electrical and digital equipment underpinning live performance lighting, including technical drafting and paperwork.

The programme comprises eight modules across four academic terms, including four lighting designs on public productions in an Associate Lighting Designer role and either a Production Electrician or Lighting Programmer role, plus a professional work placement.
