About Master in MA Theatre Costume

Tuition fees for Master in MA Theatre Costume are 27,500 GBP per year.

MA Theatre Costume is a two-year, full-time postgraduate course validated by King's College London, training students as costume makers or supervisors for a career in theatre. Teaching is practice-based, built around work on RADA's public productions where students act as Costume Assistants and, later, supervise performances themselves.

Costume-making is taught from first principles: basic sewing, pattern-cutting and grading, pattern manipulation, block pattern cutting, cutting on the stand and draping, with projects including corsetry, ruffs, period shirt tailoring and millinery. Costume Supervising is taught through script analysis, budgeting, and communication/management skills, alongside introductory classes in hair and make-up, wig knotting, history of costume, costume props and fabric treatments.

The course also includes a personal research project examining fashion history in a chosen region and period, considering political, environmental and world-event influences.

English Test Requirement

Equivalent to CEFR level C1 or IELTS 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in all areas
