Master Calcul Haute Performance, Simulation

Tuition costs 250 EUR per year.

Master Calcul Haute Performance, Simulation is a two-year master's degree at Université de Perpignan Via Domitia, in Perpignan, France, taught in French with an inferred September start and a yearly tuition of 250 EUR. High-performance computing and simulation, the field this program addresses, focuses on the methods and infrastructure used to run large-scale computations, often to model complex physical, chemical, or engineering systems that would be difficult or impossible to study through experiment alone. Students typically study parallel computing architectures, numerical methods, and the algorithms used to simulate physical processes, alongside programming skills needed to work efficiently on large computing clusters. Coursework often addresses topics such as scientific computing, computational modeling, and the optimization of software to run efficiently across multiple processors, since performance and scalability are central concerns in this field. Programs in this area also tend to cover the mathematical foundations behind simulation, including differential equations and numerical analysis, given that most simulations rely on solving such equations approximately using computational methods. Applications of high-performance computing and simulation span fields such as climate modeling, materials science, fluid dynamics, and engineering design, reflecting how widely these techniques are used across scientific and industrial research. Students are generally expected to complete substantial project work involving the design and execution of simulations on real computing infrastructure, developing both programming skills and an understanding of the physical or mathematical systems being modeled. Graduates of programs in this field typically pursue careers as computational scientists, simulation engineers, or high-performance computing specialists, working in research institutions, engineering firms, and industries such as aerospace, energy, and manufacturing that rely heavily on computational modeling. Others move into research roles supporting academic or industrial laboratories that depend on large-scale computing resources.
