About Master in Alta Moda, Fashion Design

The tuition fee is 24,000 EUR for the 12-month program.

What does it mean to design Haute Couture today? It means understanding the history of Couture, mastering its techniques and materials while, at the same time, knowing how to look beyond tradition.

The Master in Haute Couture, Fashion Design takes you into this balance, transforming culture, research and experimentation into your own vision of contemporary Couture.

Throughout the programme, you will develop the cultural and technical tools needed to design and develop a Haute Couture collection: from the history of fashion and the great protagonists of Couture to the study of textiles, from tailoring and embellishment techniques to new technologies applied to design. You will learn to read a brand’s codes, understand its DNA and interpret them in light of social, cultural and market changes.

Design lies at the heart of the Master’s programme. Through workshops, Industry Projects and practical activities, you will work on real briefs and engage with companies, ateliers and professionals across the fashion supply chain, putting your skills into practice and learning how to manage the creative process in relation to different professional contexts and stakeholders.

Your connection with the industry also develops through collaborations with fashion houses, institutions and specialist organisations within the Couture supply chain. Recent editions have included collaborations with Museo Cristóbal Balenciaga, Valentino, Tessitura Stamperia Luigi Verga and Swarovski.

The programme also includes a curricular internship and concludes with the creation of a personal collection: a project that reflects your research, your method and the direction you want to give to your professional identity within the world of Haute Couture.

The study plan brings together culture, technique and design. The history of Haute Couture provides the foundations; materials, embellishment and tailoring techniques give you the tools and expertise; research and Fashion Design transform them into a project. The programme is complemented by computer graphics, visual arts, marketing and professional development, together with workshops, Industry Projects and activities involving professionals across the supply chain. Because a Haute Couture collection is not simply a creative exercise: it is a project that must engage with a real professional system.
    History of Fashion
Couture as a living history. Trace the history of Haute Couture from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day, exploring the brands and key figures who have shaped its identity. The course develops research and individual critical-thinking skills, working with primary sources and exploring how new ideas can emerge from an understanding of the past.
    Computer Graphics
Giving digital form to research. Develop advanced professional layout techniques for concepts, moodboards, brochures and presentations, following the principles of Graphic Design. Using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, you will also develop advanced digital illustration techniques, including dynamic fashion figures, rendering, and the creation of patterns and textures for Textile Design.
    Latest Trends in Visual Arts
Reading the images of the present. Explore the history of photography from the 1930s onwards, beginning with figures such as Man Ray and moving through to the digital revolution and the rise of social media. A journey designed to understand how the ways in which images are produced, shared and interpreted have changed over time.
    Embellishment
The surface becomes a design language. Embroidery, textiles, leather, fur, feathers, flowers and applied materials become tools for exploring contemporary decoration. Through practical exercises and interaction with professionals across the supply chain, you will experiment with embellishment techniques applied to Couture garments and accessories.
    Fashion Design
From research to Couture. The creative core of the Master’s programme. Starting with research and the definition of a concept, you will develop a collection through drawing, pattern cutting, Haute Couture tailoring techniques, material research and illustration. Workshops and Industry Projects allow you to work on a variety of projects, from reinterpreting the codes of an existing brand to developing volumes, from prototyping and exploring manufacturing techniques to presenting your final project in a professional context.
    Professional Development
Understanding the system you want to enter. Explore the relationship between communication, marketing and the fashion and Haute Couture markets. You will learn to read a brand’s codes and translate them into a communication plan that is consistent with its identity, audience and positioning.
