Musical Instruments at The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice is a master's degree program taught in English over two years, with yearly tuition of 5,500 EUR. The Academy was founded in 1929 and is located in a neo-Gothic building, hosting concerts, master classes, workshops, competitions, and conferences at both national and international levels alongside its teaching activities. The Academy is organized into two departments: the Composition, Interpretation, Education and Jazz Department, and the Vocal-Instrumental Department, with studies offered in composition and music theory, conducting, artistic education in music, jazz, instrumental performance, vocal performance, and church music. Since the 2011/2012 academic year, the Academy has offered paid studies in English in selected specialties. The faculty includes pianists Prof. Andrzej Jasiński, Józef Stompel, and Wojciech Świtała; harpist Prof. Helga Storck; guitarist Prof. Alina Gruszka; organist Prof. Julian Gembalski; harpsichordist Prof. Marek Toporowski; accordionist Prof. Joachim Pichura; and cellist Prof. Paweł Głombik, alongside faculty members who are musicians of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. A master's program in instrumental performance of this kind typically builds on undergraduate instrumental training with advanced repertoire, chamber music, and performance practice, preparing graduates for careers as professional orchestral or chamber musicians, soloists, or instrumental teachers at an advanced level. The two-year, English-medium master's format at an academy with close to a century of history gives international students continued access to instruction from performers connected to Poland's national broadcasting orchestra, following on from undergraduate instrumental study.
