Philosophy engages with fundamental questions about knowledge, existence, ethics, logic, and the nature of reality, examined through the close reading of philosophical texts and structured argumentation. A typical curriculum covers major areas such as epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, political philosophy, and logic, alongside the history of philosophical thought from ancient to contemporary periods. Students learn to construct and evaluate arguments, analyze complex texts, and write rigorously reasoned essays, skills that are transferable across many fields. Rather than preparing students for a single defined career path, philosophy develops strong critical thinking, reasoning, and communication abilities that are valued in law, education, publishing, public policy, business, and many other sectors, as well as in further academic study. This bachelor's program is offered by İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, with instruction delivered entirely in English over 4 years. Studying philosophy in an English-medium environment gives students access to a large body of English-language philosophical scholarship and debate, and supports later academic or professional work conducted in English. The program is expected to combine core courses in the major branches of philosophy with more specialized seminars as students advance through the four years. Class discussion and written argumentation typically play a central role in how the subject is taught. Located in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, the university setting places students within a broader academic community during their philosophy studies.
