Academy Cookery

The Academy Cookery Programme is designed for secondary school learners who want to explore culinary skills while still in school. This Level 3 program takes place at UCOL Wairarapa in Masterton and runs for approximately six months, starting in February 2026. Students will learn essential cooking techniques and food safety practices, making it ideal for those who are passionate about food and hospitality.

Throughout the program, students will engage in hands-on learning, preparing a variety of dishes including pasta, egg, and vegetable dishes. They will also gain experience in a commercial kitchen environment, which helps them develop practical skills that are highly valued in the culinary industry. The program comprises 24 credits and covers key unit standards that ensure students are well-prepared for further studies or entry-level positions in the hospitality sector.

Graduates of the Academy Cookery Programme can pursue various pathways in the culinary field, including roles such as kitchen assistant, food service worker, or further studies in cookery and food and beverage service. This program lays a solid foundation for those looking to build a career in the culinary arts or related industries, equipping them with both skills and confidence to succeed.
