Master in Architecture

Architecture is a master's degree program at Gdańsk University of Technology, based in Gdańsk, Poland, running four semesters and taught in English, with yearly tuition of 8600 PLN. Coursework covers a wide scope of issues, from architectural and urban theory and design, through advanced structures and materials, to the conservation of monuments and urban renewal strategies. Diplomas awarded on completion of the second-degree studies are formally recognized, in accordance with Directive 2005/36/EC, as proof of obtaining the qualifications of an architect within the European Union. Graduates are described as gaining knowledge and skills in architectural, urban, and conservation design, spatial planning, the history and theories of architecture, the theory of urban design, fine arts, technical sciences, and the humanities, along with an understanding of the relationship between people and architectural objects and the surrounding space and the social responsibility involved in design. The programme also addresses solving functional, utility, construction, engineering, and technological problems to a degree that ensures safety and comfort in facilities, including for people with disabilities, applying legal regulations and procedures relevant to building and design, and integrating projects with planning regulations both within Poland and across other EU member states. Graduates are expected to understand the role of an architect in society and the impact of their work on the quality of the built environment, to be prepared to apply the principles of professional ethics, and to be competent in applying knowledge in practice, including evaluating and formulating professional judgments. Architecture as a discipline combines design, engineering, and planning to shape buildings and cities. To apply, candidates need a completed field of study in which the graduate receives the title of Eng. Arch., or a Bachelor's Diploma or Bachelor's Degree Certificate confirming a major in architecture, following a comparison of the curriculum, along with an approved portfolio.
