COOP Design Research is a one-year Master of Science programme that positions design as a transdisciplinary research practice. It draws on material studies, social sciences, design anthropology, cultural studies, technology studies, architecture, and design history to develop students' capacity for critical academic inquiry into the material environment. The programme engages with the legacy of Bauhaus Dessau as a point of departure for thinking about design research. Running over two semesters with a winter semester start, the curriculum is built around three thematic building blocks: Design as Research, Design as Education, and Design as Projection. Students progress through an introductory laboratory, a design research laboratory, and a proposal phase before producing a full Master's thesis. A lecture series and seminar on theories and methods of scientific work, a COOP module featuring input from partner institutions, and a Master's Talk series with external researchers and designers round out the programme. Instruction is delivered jointly by Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, and Humboldt University Berlin, with coursework taking place primarily at the Gropius Bauhaus in Dessau and, to a lesser degree, at Humboldt University in Berlin. Yearly tuition is 2,500 EUR. The programme is based at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau-Roßlau, Germany.
