STAR Café Service Skills

The STAR Café Service Skills course is designed for secondary school learners who are interested in the culinary arts. This Level 2 program offers hands-on experience in preparing and presenting basic sandwiches, making it ideal for students who enjoy working with food. The course takes place over two Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm at UCOL campuses in Palmerston North and Whanganui.

During the course, students will learn essential skills such as food preparation and assembly. This practical training not only enhances their culinary abilities but also prepares them for further studies in chef training or baking. The course comprises 2 credits and focuses on Unit Standard 13281, which is recognized in New Zealand's educational framework.

Graduates of the STAR Café Service Skills course can explore various career pathways in the hospitality industry, including roles such as chef, baker, or café assistant. Completing this course is a stepping stone towards more advanced qualifications, such as the New Zealand Certificate in Cookery.
