Who can apply

Universiti Malaya requires MBBS applicants to sit an entrance examination and accepts MSAT (Malaysia), MCAT, or GAMSAT for it; the programme is explicitly open to international applicants, not restricted to Malaysian nationals. Its separate international-undergraduate FAQ requires at least 12 years of completed prior schooling with an accepted qualification or recognised diploma, plus English-language evidence — the same FAQ notes some programmes carry higher English-score requirements, so the current MBBS-specific threshold is worth confirming directly with the university rather than assumed from the general undergraduate bar.

The five-year duration covers the degree itself, not the training that follows graduation: the Malaysian Medical Council describes supervised training under provisional registration for newly qualified doctors, with full registration following its successful completion, so that year sits outside the cited five-year length rather than inside it.

NMC's FAQ for the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 states that covered foreign medical graduates need at least 54 months of study and a 12-month internship in the same foreign institution. It distinguishes the internship from clinical posting during the course and also describes a supervised internship in India after qualification. This is a home-country rule, not confirmation that any Malaysian programme meets it.
